Choosing the Perfect Time for Newborn Photos: A Guide for JAC Photography Clients

Welcoming a new baby into the world is a joyous experience. At JAC Photography, we understand how important it is to capture these precious early moments with newborn photography. The ideal age for newborn photos is within the first 14 days after birth. During this time, babies are very sleepy and flexible enough to be posed in those adorable, heart-melting positions that make newborn photography so special. By the two-week mark, babies begin to have longer alert times, and are less poseable, baby acne and colic can sometimes appear, so we aim to schedule sessions within this window to avoid these potential challenges. As well, that first stage when the baby is fresh is just so fleeting, you’ll be amazed how quickly they change and we can never go back.

However, we recognize that life doesn’t always go according to plan. If your baby has an extended hospital stay or other factors make an early session difficult, don’t worry—at JAC Photography, we are flexible. We allow a month’s leeway for newborn photo sessions to accommodate different situations, ensuring we can capture those beautiful moments even if things don’t happen as planned.

To secure your session within the optimal timeframe, we encourage parents to pre-book with us based on their due date. We understand that babies have their own schedule, and even if you have a planned c-section, there’s always the possibility of surprises. By pre-booking, we can better manage our schedule to ensure we have room for your newborn’s session within the desired first 14 days of life. For maternity Sessions we recommend booking as early as 12 weeks and we can plan a stunning session with custom styles.

Our goal at JAC Photography is to create stunning newborn photos you will cherish for a lifetime, no matter the circumstances. If your baby arrives prematurely and needs to spend extra time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), we will work with you to find a suitable time once your baby is home. We’ve photographed many preemies right past 8 weeks old.
